The Senate Committee on Commerce and Tourism has placed SB 1606 on its agenda for a hearing Tuesday morning, February 6th. Bill sponsor Senator Annette Taddeo has prepared a cogent presentation for this appearance, which is the first of three Senate committee referrals scheduled for the bill this session. Over the past weeks, COMPASS has met with the committee members and their staff to outline and clarify the fundamentals of this bill – specifically that it creates a strong business model for Florida film production without employing incentives or tax dollar giveaways. We anticipate the committee vote will be supportive, allowing us to move our effort forward in the upper chamber.
The eight committee members and their contact information are listed on the Senate website here. The meeting will be held in the Toni Jennings Committee Room, 110 Senate Office Building at the Capitol, beginning at 9:00am on Tuesday, under the guidance of committee chair Senator Bill Montford (D – District 3). SB 1606 and its companion public records bill SB 1604 will be heard concurrently.
